Big News - Blacklight Artists on Saturday Night
Award Winning Make-Up Artists Chris Crum, Dean Martin and Nick Wolfe will be doing thier work at our Intergalactic Beach Party

As many of you already know, our INTER-GALACTIC BEACH PARTY on Saturday night (midnight) will be lit ONLY with black lights, so if you are still wondering what to wear, break out your glowies, neon/flourescent colors and anything else that will glow in black light.
We also have some EXCELLENT news for those who are attending this party.
Chris Crum (of http://www.EvilFireLizard.com) and Dean Martin, two amazing make-up artist will be set-up in our party doing black-light reactive make-up!! Artist Nick Wolfe (he and his brother were the #1 body painters as of last months international competition who do massive BL body art) will also be coming along to make some sure-to-be amazing pieces on human canvas....check out his samples below: |

Dragon*Con 2009 Updates

Awesome Prizes Coming Your Way!!
We've got some great contests lined up this year and i wanted to give you all an update on the prizes we've got to give away...
For our ROCK GODS Party on Friday Night it's the best Rocker Chick and Dude Costume Contest! We are giving away 2 life sized replica guitars created by Bama Spyder specially for this event. We will hold the costume contest about 2 AM so stick around for it! We will also have glow bracelets and necklaces to give out and, of course, our CON*tourage CON*cocktion.
Our INTER-GALACTIC BEACH PARTY will be holding two contests. The Alien Bikini Contest, and the Go-Go- Dance Contest.
For the Alien Bikini Contest, the only requirements are that you have a Bikini On. The winner gets a silver chainmail lanyard from THANDOR. We also have neon Leis to give out and extra special Leis to all Bikini contestants. The contest will run until 2 AM when the Grand Prize will be awarded.
Our Surf-A-Go-Go Dance Contest will happen between 1-2 and a special trophy will be awarded to the best Go-Go Dancers.

Go See District 9
A Movie Review by Master Andre |
The best movie i've seen in a long time...
District 9 is one of those movies that stays with you. It has a gritty, realistic feel to it that so many new movies lack, but more than that... it has a story that is tied directly into the human condition. This movie is an instant science fiction masterpiece that builds on a very simple premise culled from the real world.
My friend and I saw it last week on a Sunday matinee not expecting a breakout classic, but some summer fun alien-style. There were several things that interested me, and encouraged me to see the film.
First, it got REALLY good reviews and was made on a small budget, I LOVE films that are able to do this. I remember reading one review who headline was "When the aliens land and they don't want to fight, what happens..." I laughed and joked with my friend "I can't believe we are excited about seeing a movie where the aliens are peace-loving hippies and there is no action. Maybe they'll have some alien weed!"
Second... NO big-name actors, which I also really dig because you don't know who is good, who is bad, who may die...in short, ANYTHING can happen.
Third, It was based on a short film by Neill Blomkamp called Alive in Joberg. Which I watched and thought was really well done with a very low budget. It gave me the that creative spark I get whenever I see someone make a GREAT film for almost no money, defying the odds and creating a slice of living art.
The full length feature was at first slated to be based on the HALO videogame franchaise but when Peter Jackson lost the rights to do HALO he told Blomkampt "Do whatever movie you want". The result is District 9 . It's filmed documentary style with interviews and news clips cut into the main story. I sat entranced for two hours with the knowledge that I was watching a film destined to become a science fiction cult-classic.
After the movie, I walked out into the bright South Florida sunshine and the World looked a little different. I stared up into the sky and I could almost see an alien ship hanging above the billowing cumulous, casting a humungous shadow on the city below.
A few really cool facts about District 9
The area where most of District 9 was filmed was not a Hollywood movie set, but an actual area in South Africa that was evacuated in much the same way the aliens are in the movie. The shacks were once inhabited by South African impovershed residents and remains abandoned and untouched, right down to the dead animal carcusses.
A lot of the interview footage were not of actors, but real South Africans who are actually talking about the situation in South Africa. They were asked the question "What do you think about the Zimbabwean Africans living here?" and those answers were used as actual footage. This REALLY makes the film seem real.
Third, a lot of the dialog, specifiacally in the eviction scenes, is completely improvised on the spot by the actors. That's what makes it feel like they are really communicating.
There is only one thing for it. Go see it.

This movie is just insane. It has a gritty feel to it and draws you into a secret world with pristine beaches and fields of marijuana. Paradise? Is it ever. Of course there are gun toting drug lords, shark bites, and the the collapse of a secret society...plus it has the word Beach in the title. |

This film is just the classic late 50's Beach movie. This film was revolutionary for its time becasue it showed women dancing around with two piece bathingsuits on. Can you imagine. It has that funky psychedelic feel to it that's a prelude to the 60's. |
