Where did you first see Star Wars?

Star Wars Now Showing

Gearing up for Star Wars Celebration V in August has started me reminiscing about my early Star Wars days. My experience with Star Wars began in a classic-style 2 Screen Movie Theatre in Hollywood Florida. I can still remember what it looked like inside that old theatre. The smell of old popcorn, hot dogs, and butter-soaked carpeting  that was familiar and even pleasing. I would return years later and see Empire Strikes Back at this same theatre, but that is another story. Anyway I remember the excitement and the wonder, but hey I was pretty young so I can’t remember everything!  I was lucky enough to have had a BETAMAX VCR (which didn’t go mainstream for many more years) in my household by the next year and also a bootleg copy of Star Wars which I proceeded to watch perhaps thousands of times, firmly cementing each line and scene and piece of music into my malleable brain.

Also, there was a toy and marketing blitz going on  of which I had never seen the likes of before in my then-short life. No other movie had toys and t-shirts and special collectible glasses at Burger King before, so I was kind of blown away. My brother and I started collecting  the Kenner action figures. I recall taking hours to decide on a single figure purchase…and if I only had that wall of unopened figures now. Sigh. Well I would love to hear your stories about when you first saw Star Wars. Don’t be shy!

Star Wars Celebration V

Star Wars Celebration V Coming Soon To A Galaxy Near You!

We are CON*verging in Orlando Florida for the first ever Star Wars Celebration Event in the South East. It will be held in the mightily HUGE and dreaded Orlando Convention Center so we expect to be worn out after this one, but it promises to be a TON of fun. Star Wars biggies will be in attendance including Carrie Fisher, Ray Park and , the big man himself, George Lucas, as well as many other famous faces. We will be showing up as early as possible Friday to get in on the festivities as I am sure there will be a lot to see.

We have Petey, AKA “Bodyhammer” coming for sure , Axl and crew are still undecided, but hopefully the force will be with them and they can make it. We were talking about doing some ultra-secret new Star Wars Characters…..but Ill save that.

Anyway…I am a big-time Star Wars geek since I was 7 years old and saw it for the first time in a theatre that has long since been torn down. I expect to just totally geek out at this con so, I ask for your forgiveness and protection. I could end up with a full-sized X-Wing Fighter Replica in my posession, yet no money to actually get back home, not to mention ship said item. Hmmm…

Anyway if you want to hook up with us, let us know! Just send me and email and we’ll meetcha there!

May the force be with you all. Rock On!
